HOMEMAKER, MOTHER & REAL FOOD ADVOCATE

MY JOURNEY INTO MAKING HOMEMADE FOODS

Eight years ago, before I become a mother & full-time homemaker, I could barely make a good omelet, let alone anything else. A good dinner for me was take out and a quick meal was store-bought curry sauce on top of some boil in a bag rice. As I eased into the ebb and flow of raising my growing family, I found myself needing to feed them affordably and mindfully.

A few years ago, gut issues in my family compelled me to look further into the food we consumed as a family and its impact on our health.  I learned that garlic was pretty much indigestible for my husband and needed to be eliminated from his diet. Since garlic is in pretty much everything store-bought, I started making all our pantry ingredients from scratch – pizza dough, pasta sauce, salad dressing, etc.

Cooking our meals from scratch was overwhelming at first, but now I see it as a creative outlet. Anxiety surrounding dinner time has now been replaced by pleasure and comfort. I branched out from sauces to desserts, baked goods and breads. I poured into books about wild herbs, and organ meats and found ways to incorporate them into our everyday meals.

Learning about topics like balancing flavors, the science of baking &  sourcing the right ingredients has helped in making meals for my family an easy process and something I look forward to every day.

My hope with this blog is that I can inspire families to cultivate a wholesome food culture that celebrates screen free family dinners every night, homemade baking & cooking & sourcing local food where possible.
